Cosies by Madame Weigel

Johanna Weigel was the first in Australia to manufacture paper dressmaking patterns for home sewing, starting her business in 1878. The patterns were issued through her fashion journal, Weigel’s Journal of Fashion, which soon gathered a loyal following. She later branched out to include items such as cushions, tea cosies, milk jug covers, rugs, children’s knitwear, slippers and clothes hangers. Madame Weigel died in 1940, her business continuing on until 1969.
